Large Metal Sculpture: "Chaos"
This one of a kind metal sculpture is called "Chaos", or "Nemo's Harp". Chaos was inspired by Jules Verne's character, Captain Nemo, from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea:
"On the surface, they can still exercise their iniquitous laws, fight, devour each other, and indulge in all their earthly horrors. But thirty feet below the (sea's) surface, their power ceases, their influence fades, and their dominion vanishes. Ah, Monsieur, to live in the bottom of the sea! ....There I recognize no master! There I am free!"
Nemo is Latin for "nobody" and Greek for "I Give What is Due".
This is an excellent work of original statement art for a luxury garden or patio, an office park or the home of a private collector, a music lover or literature aficionado, or anyone who appreciates fine art.
Featuring 56 matching hand tied steel strings, the harp is recoiling as the polished steel sphere is hurtling towards it, crossing her strings, arching her spine. Each string is wrapped exactly the same number of times, and is identically and painstakingly tied to look exactly the same. This sculpture is 6'2" tall, and holds up to rain, snow, rain and sunny days.
Finished in a special outdoor lacquer that is UV and weather resistant, this conversation piece will captivate you and your guests for years to come.
As a whole, this sculpture has a fluid movement to it, which is hard to accomplish in a stationary piece. You can see it in the way the strings cross, to the way the entire harp is pulling away from the sphere, to the base, which looks like waves lapping at her feet.
This is a museum quality sculpture.
